The Zookeeper represents the first example of an entirely different approach to using my outline technique. Not only does the work include a two-dimensional painting but in front of it is another dimension, silver-soldered wire, that forms a screen in front of the painting. So the animals in this print are on the painting while the "Zoo" gate and the zookeeper himself protrude some inches in front of the painting. Although the print does not really show it, changing light casts constantly shifting shadows from the wire on to the painting.Another feature of this picture that I particularly like is the somber gorilla eyeing the smiling zookeeper on the other side of the gate, considering how closely our species are related.
