Like "Madman at the Barbecue", this picture too takes an ironic look
at our culture where an old cowboy doing rope tricks over a small dog
is pretty good entertainment as the woman on the left can attest. The
landscape in the background reflects the western, cowboy theme.

This painting is the first one of a variation of my style that I've
used a number of times, namely putting a horizontal line about
two-thirds of the way down the picture. (In this case, it's the line
just above the spotlight) This dividing line causes the lower part of
the painting to function as a platform or stage, while the upper part
becomes the backdrop.
