A number of people have commented on the surreal feeling in my work, sometimes achieved by unusual combination or juxtapositions of images. Here, for example, an astronaut in his full space suit stands on his parents' deck, a moonscape strangely reflected in the astronaut's visor.

These unusual juxtapositions of images are one of the factors that gives my painting a very personal feel. But it's also equally important to me that this world reflect on our human experience. In this work, there's a humorous nod to parents taking pride in our children's occupation. But the idea of the astronaut needing his space suit on earth and the moonscape somehow reflected in his visor, both came from my concern with how we take care of our planet.
