In late 1999, as we approached not only a new century
but also a new millennium, it was easy to wonder at all the millions
of people who had lived in the thousand years from 1000-2000 A.D.
and to imagine how human experience had changed in that time, for
better and worse. This is one of the two paintings I did then to
try to capture those musings.
This picture again shows my interest in historical perspective,
as well as mixing of different size figures.
One of several particular challenges I think my work addresses is
how to use painting to show motion and change. One technique, among
several, that I use to try to capture change is taking an historical
perspective. At least on an intellectual level, it gives the viewer
a sense of movement through time.
