This is the first of what I think of a my War Series. In this work, soldiers of many eras come streaming in from the right towards their only witness, a terrified child looking out of a window.

One of many aspects I like about this work is the feeling of motion produced by all of the soldiers moving in from one direction. In fact, many of them have their weapons pointed at the child, which only increases the sense of terror.

Although my paintings begin from some personal idea or experience or sometimes from some artistic technique I want to try out, my goal is to produce a final painting which makes people think and to which they can bring their own experience to their interpretation. "In Come the Soldiers" is an exception, because its very forceful presentation does not lend itself as easily to much individual interpretation.
