The woman who the man is looking at in a rather puzzled
way is taken from Henri Rousseau's painting "The Dream"
(hence the title). She herself seems more interested in the exotic
flower she's pointing at.
When I first started using this outlining style, my most common
way of painting is what you see in "In Bed with The Dream".
After outlining the shapes, I'd fill all the spaces with flat color
and use a thin oil glaze to add some three-dimensionality. At its
best, this technique produces very vivid colors that have something
of the feeling of a stained glass window, that is, the light seems
to be flowing out of the color. (In fact, stained glass windows
are an art form that corresponds in some ways to my style. The lines
in my work would be similar to the leading that holds the window
together and give it its structure.)
