Years ago I painted a work entitled "Father and Daughter" and this is a companion piece. Both paintings show contemporary parents with well-known artistic references. In "Father and Daughter", the father tries to talk to a very disinterested young girl from Valesquez's "Maids of Honor". In an opposite vein, this young boy from Ghirlandaio's painting "An Old Man and His Grandson", tries to get the attention of his father, again rather unsuccessfully.
